In that first year, the Developmental Services Sector&#8217;s guiding document was \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/coordinatedaccess.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Making-Services-Work-for-People.pdf\">Making Services Work for People<\/a><\/span>\u201d (1997) from the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/adults-developmental-disabilities-ontario\">Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, with the addition of other disability organizations in Ontario, the FCIN supports and promotes faith and culture needs, desires and choices in community and service planning. It also makes recommendations to provincial advisory groups and the government. The Faith and Culture Inclusion Network is a member of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/provincialnetwork.ca\/\">Provincial Network on Developmental Disabilities<\/a><\/span> which is a coalition of organizations representing service providers, families and self-advocates on behalf of people who experience intellectual disability.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithcultureinclusion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/inuksuk.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-595 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.faithcultureinclusion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/inuksuk-300x268.jpg\" alt=\"an inuksuk on a bleak wintery landscape\" width=\"300\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.faithcultureinclusion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/inuksuk-300x268.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.faithcultureinclusion.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/inuksuk.jpg 418w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The FCIN logo features an inuksuk. The traditional meaning of inuksuk is \u201cSomeone was here\u201d or \u201cYou are on the right path.\u201d The inukshuk is a welcome sight to a traveler on a featureless and forbidding landscape In Canada\u2019s far north. For families attempting to obtain supports for people with developmental disabilities, the journey can appear much like a featureless and forbidding landscape. It is our hope that the FCIN can be a guide along the path to obtaining supports and pointing the way to full faith and cultural inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>It is the desire of the FCIN to raise awareness of caring for the whole person, including spiritual and cultural needs. For many people, faith and cultural traditions, celebrations, practices and rituals are woven into the fabric of their lives resulting in positive outcomes that may not be immediately observed.
